The project is part of the county’s Enterprise Financial System (EFS) plan to provide a financial system and associated business processes that will improve efficiency and increase fiscal discipline in the financial management of the county.
Ciber will replace the county’s current mainframe systems with Oracle’s PeopleSoft Financials Management suite and Oracle Hyperion Public Sector Planning and Budgeting solutions. The new software will support core financial functions, such as general ledger accounting, purchasing and accounts payable, as well as project and grant accounting. It also will provide business intelligence tools such as dashboard reporting.
David Sundstrom, Sonoma County auditor-controller, treasurer and tax collector, called the new system the “backbone for Sonoma county government,” a system to be used by more than two dozen departments and agencies with more than 3,500 employees. Ciber will manage system implementation and training for county staff members.
“Sonoma County chose Ciber because of the company’s industry experience working with counties across North America,” Sundstrom said. “Sonoma County is decommissioning a 28-year-old mainframe and an operating system that has little industry support. With the EFS project’s high priority in Sonoma County, we wanted a modern and reliable finance system that would eliminate replicated data and reduce system maintenance and management costs while increasing the efficiency of business processes.”
“The engagement with Sonoma County extends Ciber’s expertise in the county government sector,” said Mike Dillon, Ciber vice president and Oracle practice leader. “Sonoma County, like other counties with similar implementations by Ciber, will gain a system that helps county personnel provide high-quality service for the community.”
Ciber has successfully assisted hundreds of public sector organizations of varying sizes and worked with all 50 states. The company has more than 30 years of experience helping government organizations achieve their IT-related goals.
A Platinum level member of Oracle Partner Network (OPN), Ciber has helped more than 1,000 clients in more than 2,000 separate engagements leverage their Oracle applications to improve business processes, reduce costs and provide support for management decision-making.
