Pearson the world’s leading learning company, today announced a strategic partnership with 1776 (1776dc.com/), an incubator platform based in Washington, D.C. Under a three-pronged partnership with 1776, Pearson will work actively with the edtech startups being incubated on the 1776 Campus, support training and education for digital innovators through the 1776 School, and collaborate with the education startups being fast-tracked at the 1776 Super Accelerator.
“America’s education system is at a crossroads and a forward-thinking approach is needed to solve many challenges,” said Evan Burfield, co-founder of 1776. “Pearson is using technology to invent new ways of learning; and by working with organizations like 1776 and our startups, Pearson’s experts not only provide insights around data and technical integration strategies, they can advise startups on effectively penetrating and scaling in the education market.”
Opened in April, 2013, the 1776 Campus is located a few blocks from the White House and includes co-working and mentorship programs for hundreds of startups and an events venue that has rapidly become the center of gravity for the Washington, D.C. startup community. With a particular emphasis on startups involved in education, 1776 members get access to the political, intellectual, social, and financial capital that make Washington, D.C. unique.
“Pearson is committed to tackling some of the biggest challenges in global education and improving learner outcomes through innovative new technology. In support of that, we have already enjoyed working with 1776 to identify edtech startups for our own Pearson Catalyst accelerator program,” said Diana Stepner, Head of Future Technologies at Pearson. “Through our new partnership, we’re looking forward to working more closely with the startup community in D.C. and helping define the future of learning together.”
