In an example of practicing what we preach, a recent news release from Alquist highlights how Verizon plans to use Alquist's temperature monitoring system to proactively manage data center energy usage. Verizon is part of an Alquist-led consortium that has just been awarded almost £1 million in UK Government funding to help UK data center operators reduce their carbon footprint.

Alquist's Celsius temperature monitoring system is at the core of the concept. Celsius uses advanced laser technology and fiber-optics to create high definition temperature maps of data center server racks and power transmission equipment. Using this information in real-time, data center staff can proactively optimize airflow and air conditioning settings. Alquist estimates that mid-size data centers can target 10-30% reduction in electricity bills, and reduce carbon emissions by up to 2,000 tons per year through improved energy usage.

The funding award came from the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC), and follows the consortium's success in the "Invest in Innovative Refurbishment" DECC program, which is managed under the SBRI framework by the Technology Strategy Board. From 50 applications, the consortium's bid was one of only five awarded delivery contracts.
