In ongoing growth moves, APS (Alliance Polymers and Services LLC) has introduced its new line of polyester and polyether-based thermoplastic polyurethane compounds (TPUs). The new compounds, sold under the Zythane® TPU name and depending on the grade, are specifically formulated for injection molding, clear injection molding and clear extrusion applications.
Thermoplastic polyurethanes, or TPUs, are part of the family of soft elastomers known as thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs), and are known and used for robust applications that require superior abrasion resistance, good weatherability, transparency, toughness and cut and tear properties over a wide range of temperatures and end-use conditions. They also offer a high resistance to degradation from man chemicals, greases, oils, water and fungus.
Applications include, but are not limited to, footwear, wire and cable sheathing, hoses and tubing, industrial and consumer goods, transportation products, geophysical and mining products (i.e. belting), recreational products and food processing.
New Zythane TPUs from APS Compounding, depending on the grade, have properties and benefits that include:
• Shore Hardness 60 Shore A - 70 Shore D
• Tensile Strength from 3,000 8,000 psi
• Tear Strength 400 1600 lb/in
• Transparent
• Elongation 300% 760%
• UV Resistant
• Low Temperature Flexibility
• High Temperature Resistance
APS (apstpe.com) is an established TPE technology resource, offering service, technical support and TPE materials for consumer and industrial applications. Company offerings include Maxelast® TPEs, Viprene™ TPVs, new Zythane™ TPUs, TPE alloys, compounding services and custom and standard soft elastomer formulations.
