The 2013 BioMarine Business Convention in Halifax 9-12 September will focus on aquaculture, aquafeed, marine bioresources, marine biotechnologies and marine natural products. In attendance, over 300 professionals of which 84% are CEOs and top executives, representing biomarine sectors in North America and Europe as well as Africa, Asia, Australia and South America. BioMarine puts the ocean at the center of new business development, bringing together business leaders, scientists, experts and governments to make deals, partnerships and acquisitions and to scout new ventures. Started in 2008, BioMarine is the only international platform with a track record of business innovation and investment in marine bioresources and marine biotechnologies.
Max T. Holtzman, Acting Deputy Under Secretary MRP (Marketing and Regulatory Programs) and Senior Advisor to the Secretary, United States Department of Agriculture, leads the US delegation and he will participate in the debate on Aquaculture. Mr. Holtzman advises the US Secretary of Agriculture in a number of areas including trade, biotechnology, public-private partnerships, international food security and aquaculture. Mr. Holtzman is the US Chairman of the North American Biotechnology Initiative, which includes the United States, Canada and Mexico. Francisco Gomes, Executive Manager Aqua Novus International Inc. USA, will chair.
Arne Benjaminsen, Acting Secretary General, Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs, Norway will travel to Halifax with a large delegation of Norwegian CEOs and investment blue funds.
Manuel Pinto de Abreu, Portuguese Secretary of State for the Sea, will lead the Portuguese delegation and will carry the flag for 2014 when BioMarine moves to Cascais, Portugal.
“The ocean means business now with sustainable exploitation strategies for marine bioresources,” says Pierre Erwes, Founder and Chairman of BioMarine. The BioMarine Business Convention is a new and unique source of economic development, one where the value chains and the business models are still under development.
Jacqueline Allan, Senior Policy Analyst (Biotechnology and Nanotechnology), OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) will present the OECD Report on Blue Biotech in Halifax the report issued following the 2012 Vancouver Meeting.
In Halifax, we will officially launch the BioMarine International Clusters Association (BICA), to champion marine bio resources and their sustainable and innovative utilization. We will also discuss the future BioMarine Blue Fund dedicated to marine bioresources at large and aquaculture.
Key representatives of the Canadian Government and a large representation of CEOs from the bioresources sector in Canada will attend the 2013 BioMarine Business Convention. An official delegation from Ireland will be present, as will high-level representatives of Monaco.
The BioMarine initiative is picking up momentum: the BioMarine think-tank will be organized in Sydney Australia in June 2014 on the occasion of ISAP and in October 2014 the annual BioMarine Business Convention will take place in Cascais, Portugal. In 2015, the spring think-tank will settle in Monaco while the annual BioMarine Business Convention (biomarine.org) will be hosted in Wilmington, North Carolina (USA). In 2016, we plan to organize our think-tank in the Middle East and Oslo, Norway, will welcome the BioMarine Business Convention.
