The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) today announced that international business travelers seeking simplified entry into the United States will have the opportunity to meet in-person with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents at the 2013 NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA2013), so they can be enrolled in CBP's “Global Entry” program.

Global Entry allows expedited clearance processing into the U.S. for pre-approved, low-risk travelers using automated kiosks available at 34 U.S. airports, eight pre-clearance airports in Canada, and two pre-clearance sites in Ireland.

“Given that many federal agencies are looking to increase efficiencies in their programs, we are pleased that CBP will participate in NBAA2013, where the agency can encourage participation in Global Entry, which greatly increases the efficiency of entry-clearance processing for international travelers,” said Doug Carr, NBAA vice president for safety, security, operations & regulation.

“Additionally,” Carr noted,“many people with NBAA’s Member Companies often need to travel outside the U.S. for business, so the opportunity to schedule a Global Entry interview during the Convention is important, especially for travelers who don't have a convenient CBP office to visit, or who may be facing a long wait for an interview due to the recent cutbacks that have led to curtailment of some government services.”

The Global Entry program has proven highly popular among international businesspeople whose travel frequently takes them outside the U.S. Approved international travelers arriving at Global Entry airports may present their machine-readable passport or U.S. permanent resident card at an automated kiosk. Upon further verification of the traveler’s identity and a customs declaration, the kiosk issues a transaction receipt and directs the traveler to a baggage claim and the exit from an airport’s Customs processing center.

U.S. citizens approved under Global Entry are also eligible to participate in the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA’s) PreCheck initiative, allowing expedited screening at TSA checkpoints at many commercial airports. Although Global Entry is intended to smooth the Customs-clearance process, participants, like all other international travelers, may be subject to additional, random screening when entering the United States.

Those interested in arranging a CBP interview at NBAA2013 must apply through the Global Entry website no later than Sept. 30. First-time users will be required to create an account with the Global Online Enrollment System (GOES), and a $100 non-refundable processing fee is due when submitting the on-line application. Visit the CBP’s Global Entry website to learn more about the program and apply for enrollment.

Once pre-approved, applicants will be notified, through GOES, that they are “conditionally approved” for Global Entry and may enroll for an interview. NBAA2013 Attendees should select the "NBAA Conference" location to schedule their interview during the Convention.

While interview times for NBAA2013 have not been finalized, CBP expects to be on site in Las Vegas for at least two days, with a third day added if required by demand.

NBAA2013, taking place Oct. 22 to 24 in Las Vegas, NV, is the can't-miss event for the business aviation community, offering valuable opportunities for business leaders, entrepreneurs, aircraft-purchase decision-makers, aviation professionals and others to see the latest products and services, discuss considerations for business aircraft ownership and use, hear about events and trends affecting the industry and network with peers.
