Work-related illness and injury account for nearly 30 million lost working days every year, meaning that Health and Safety is vital for the well-being of a company’s employees and the operational effectiveness of a business. With Manual Handling injuries accounting for 32% of all reported workplace accidents, ensuring that everyone is aware of the risks (and how to avoid them) can lead to a dramatic reduction in incidents and accidents. The Manual Handling Operations regulations also require employers to ensure that employees are provided with adequate information and training on manual handling at work.
MKC Training Services (a wholly owned subsidiary of Mid Kent College) is a partner in the Holdfast consortium delivering professional, Technical and Trades training to the Royal Engineers at the Royal School of Military Engineering (RSME). This unique environment presents many manual handling challenges and the e-learning course highlights these and presents clear guidance on how to overcome them. This course will be used by all MKCTS staff as part of their annual training.
Cirrus e-learning staff worked with subject matter experts at MKCTS to develop an on-line course to replace traditional face to face training on this subject. The course will deliver Manual Handling Training to the 230 MKCTS staff.
The e-learning module features crisp, clean and detailed graphics, 3D animations and instructional videos. These techniques are used to engage the students and explain some of the more complex subject areas quickly, easily and succinctly. Two quizzes are provided and a ‘Buddy’ help character provides additional hints and tips. The course is mobile and tablet ready.
Topics covered by the course include:
• Manual Handling Injuries
• Manual Handling Guidelines
• Manual Handling Risk Assessment
• Manual Handling Techniques
• Common Errors
• References (with links to statutory guidelines)
• A Final Quiz to check knowledge and retention
Commenting on the course, MKCTS Managing Director Andrew Brader stated: “Employee welfare is our number one priority at MKCTS. We have a proud record on Health and Safety and this course will only enhance our position. Cirrus e-learning have done a great job in providing all of our staff with key information on how to stay safe while lifting and moving items. Identifying many of the processes of a safe lift in such a clear and understandable manner can only help to reduce injuries.”
