The book entitled "Philippines Call Centre Outsourcing" documents the industry from its inception at the beginning of the century through to today where the industry employs over half a million Filipinos.
O’Malley stated that his reason for writing the book was to provide an accurate reflection of the industry including the challenges which have been addressed and those which persist. “The challenge of recruiting and retaining vast numbers of English speaking Filipinos still dominates the industry but other challenges such as inflationary pressures and developing managing middle management & technical skills are becoming increasingly prevalent. O’Malley also documents the social impact of the industry which many blame for a lowering birth rate and the reduction in young Filipinos getting married.
One of the other key challenges is to take as much of the industry as possible to areas outside of Metro Manila. Despite widespread efforts to encourage this, growth outside of the capital is slower than many would hope for.
In response to the book launch, O’Malley said “Much has been written regarding the call centre industry in The Philippines but most of this has is little more than marketing material aimed at promoting a particular company or the country as a whole. However, there are many commonalities between those companies who succeed in The Philippines and those who fail. By documenting the way both strong and weak companies operate, the book acts as a useful guide for both vendors and their clients.
The book is available on Amazon in both printed and e-book formats.
