NewswireTODAY - /newswire/ - Bartow, FL, United States, 2013/04/25 - The City of Bartow unveiled its new Northern Connector Road, named after Bartow Ford founder Ernest M. Smith, at a ribbon cutting ceremony held April 17th - BartowFord.com.

Construction of the four lane commuter road began in mid-2012 and with its completion Ernest M. Smith Boulevard creates a direct route from US Highway 17 to US Highway 98. The decision was curated to lessen traffic and generate an easier path between the two highways.

“I thank Benny Robles and the team at Bartow Ford who put this together, along with the Bartow Chamber; this is just an awesome way to honor such a man,” acknowledged County Commissioner, Melony Bell.

Ms. Bell was amongst the many who spoke at the ceremony on behalf of Polk County announcing the road’s official opening for public use. City and county officials, past and present Bartow Ford affiliates, and public supporters, gathered to listen to the road dedication and to honor Ernest Smith as he and son Doug Smith, took a celebratory first drive.

“It’s great to have so many people from around Polk County to honor Ernest Smith and celebrate the new road. This road means a lot to Bartow Ford and the community,” expressed Bartow Ford President, Benny Robles, Sr.

The proclamation naming the connector road after Bartow Ford Company founder Ernest M. Smith was given in April of 2012 with a unanimous vote by County Commissioners. In keeping with the name of the existing road, the Board honored Mr. Smith for his contributions to the Polk County community.
