First held in 2004, the Ironclad Art contest encourages local artists to submit their design for both sanitary and storm sewer manhole covers.
"It has been a pleasure to once again work with the City of Vancouver and to be able to provide them with tools to help engage the public. Gravit-e's design competition platform is a turnkey solution which made it possible to develop and launch the Ironclad website in a matter of days, while still being able to provide custom functionality such as bulk submission tools for teachers submitting their students' artwork," stated Nick Oostveen, president of Gravit-e.
In September, 2011, Gravit-e (gravit-e.ca) first started working with the City of Vancouver in order to create the website for the re:CONNECT competition, a contest which provided designers an opportunity to submit their ideas for the future of the Vancouver viaducts and the city's eastern core. Since then, Gravit-e has worked on five other web projects for the City of Vancouver, including the re:THINK contest website, a city initiative that allowed participants to submit their proposals on how to create sustainable and low-cost housing for the city; and in May, 2012, the What do You Picture competition, a photography contest which gave participants the chance to submit their photographs of different areas of the city.
All of these projects, including the Ironclad Art site, were based on Gravit-e’s design competition software platform, which provides tools to manage the entire competition process from registration and submission through to showcasing winners. This platform is one of Gravit-e’s standard offerings, and various organizations in Canada and the United States have used it to facilitate similar competitions.
