Aussie music legends to compose sci-fi soundtrack...
Legendary musicians Steve Kilbey, Martin Kennedy and the Kennedy fronted All India Radio will lend their distinctive sounds to The Rare Earth feature film with new original compositions and reinterpretations of Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven.
Shot independently in around Australia, the sonic creations created by the long time collaborators are a natural match for the stark landscapes showcased in the film.
No strangers to the silver screen, most famously with Under the Milky Way in cult classic Donny Darko, it's an exciting collaboration for filmmaker Aaron Stevenson, a long time fan.
"For an independent filmmaker, it's a dream come true to have Steve and Martin come on board," says the director.
"Apart from the fact I've been a huge fan for years, their music was a huge inspiration to the story and to the vibe of the film. I'm really excited they've come on board."
The film is the debut feature for New York Tropfest Best Actress winner Eliza D'Souza.
The Rare Earth also stars Prosper Taruvinga and 7 years old Bondi Stevenson, is now in Post-Production and aims for Cannes 2014.
THE R A R E EARTH
Premise:
In 1969 Mungo Lady was found.
In 1974 Mungo Man was found.
Both skeletons were discovered at Lake Mungo in Australia. They are the worlds oldest cremations and are around 50 000 years old. Their mitochondrial DNA is unique and not shared by today’s population. Their existence brings into question the generally upheld ‘Out of Africa’ theory of evolution.
In 2036 a New Skeleton is found and is also more than 50 000 years old, this one however has a small metallic hinge in its knee…
