The software deployed includes Oracle’s PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and Oracle’s Business Intelligence solutions, which are integrated with applications from other software providers.
With more than 28,000 students spread over six campuses, Ohio University wanted to enhance delivery of services to its students, faculty and staff through improved workflow, a service-oriented architecture (SOA) and Web-enabled functionality. To get there, the university initiated what it dubbed the Rufus Initiative, which was named after Gen. Rufus Putnam, who is considered to be a founder of Ohio University. The largest and most complex project the university’s Office of Information Technology had ever launched, the initiative involved replacing outdated applications and mainframe hardware that were becoming too expensive for the school to maintain. University administrators were also concerned about securing student data.
We selected Ciber as our implementation partner because of their considerable expertise with complex higher education IT projects,” said Brice Bible, Ohio University CIO. “We believe the company was a key component of this extraordinary transformation.”
Ciber dedicated a team of senior-level consultants to the project. Along with implementing the software, Ciber also worked closely with the university to develop its SOA roadmap, which provided recommendations for governance, as well as processes and procedures associated with the flow of information across the institution.
A key component of the new student information system is Oracle’s PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, a comprehensive suite of software specifically designed for higher education institutions. Ciber’s in-house Oracle experts guided the university through the implementation of all of the suite’s modules and enhanced functions of the applications to suit the needs of the university.
Another solution Ciber helped implement is Oracle Business Intelligence, which the university selected after Ciber conducted a fit/gap analysis of the school requirements and recommended the Oracle software that provides improved decision making. Ciber consultants also helped with the university’s new portal.
“We’re pleased to have completed this project for Ohio University,” said Mike Dillon, Ciber vice president and Oracle practice leader. “We believe the university will see a substantial return on its IT investments and achieve its goal of providing a top-notch experience for its students.”
A Platinum level member of Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN), Ciber has helped more than 1,000 clients in more than 2,000 separate engagements leverage their Oracle applications to improve business processes, reduce costs and provide support for management decision-making.
