Mindsharp, a SharePoint Training company, will be hosting the 2013 Best Practices Conference. This SharePoint Conference is unique because the focus will be on using SharePoint from the business side of the organization; there will not be an IT Pro or Developer track with technical information. There will be over 30 speakers from well-known profit and non-profit organizations, including Erin Glenn of Goodwill of Central Virginia. She has been working with SharePoint since 2005 for several Richmond, Virginia organizations. Today she is the SharePoint Administrator for Goodwill Industries serving Central Virginia and Hampton Roads. During her SharePoint career, Erin has conquered two major intranet rebuilds where she was the technical lead. She’s also been involved in the planning of two others.
Her session topic “Turning a ‘Wild Wild West’ Intranet into one that Helps Users Find Information Quickly and Easily” answers the “I can’t find it” complaint. Goodwill experienced this issue of findability in their initial SharePoint deployment; however, they were able to find a way to solve this problem. In this session, Erin will walk through Goodwill’s initial SharePoint implementation, which included poor information and architecture, navigation, poor search results and other problems. Then, she’ll outline their new and improved intranet that solved the “I can’t find it” complaint. Discussions will include pain points, high-level project milestones, go-live, and lessons learned.
