Island Hotels Group Holdings plc, a leading organization in the Maltese hospitality industry, has achieved significant savings in administration time and improved performance of applications across their Wide Area Network (WAN) by implementing 2X ApplicationServer XG.
The company, whose growing portfolio of properties includes Malta’s two Radisson Blu Resorts, has four locations where employees need access to applications. Initially, Island Hotels used the Terminal Services solution for Windows Server 2000. After investigating Citrix, the cost involved did not make sense. However, as their infrastructure grew, there was a need to reduce administration time and bandwidth requirements.
To solve these problems, Island Hotels used 2X ApplicationServer XG as an add-on when clients started to increase. “This added convenience in the deployment of the applications and the cost savings were more from an administrative point of view rather than product replacement. Another cost savings was on WAN bandwidth since the requirements were lower,” said Ian Briffa, Group Technical Manager.
“We have used 2X ApplicationServer XG to replace cumbersome client installations of applications that performed poorly over the WAN connections. We switched to 2X for three reasons; deployment of a client came down to a few minutes rather than an hour or so, upgrades are done centrally rather than a client at-a-time and finally application performance improved significantly,” he added.
“2X ApplicationServer XG is simple to deploy but also scalable. My #1 benefit is the ease of deploying new applications on clients. Just install the 2X client, configure the server and you’re done in a couple of clicks,” concludes Briffa.
