Barracuda Networks, Inc., a leading provider of security and storage solutions, today announced Barracuda Ventures, a new initiative from Barracuda that supports startups with technology, capital, and mentorship. In conjunction with the new initiative, Barracuda also announced it is making an investment of $25,000 to the winning company in the LAUNCH Hackathon as part of the LAUNCH Festival, March 4-6, 2013, in San Francisco. Together with Jason Calcanis and others, this makes a combined Grand Prize of up to $75,000 investment to the winner, the largest Hackathon prize ever.
"For years, Barracuda has invested in startups, incubated startups and acquired startups,” said Michael Perone, co-founder, EVP and CMO of Barracuda Networks. “The new Barracuda Ventures initiative allows us to more aggressively pursue opportunities in technologies and businesses that are meaningful to the growth of Barracuda's vision."
Additionally, Barracuda is offering the Barracuda Startup Security Package at no cost to the top five finalists of the LAUNCH Hackathon. Barracuda understands the demands of building a fast-paced startup. With limited time and resources, startups often must make sacrifices, and many times security is a lower priority. Barracuda’s goal is to give back by helping startups implement strong security as early as possible in the lifecycle. The Barracuda Startup Security package includes Barracuda Email Security Service, Barracuda Web Security Service, Barracuda Firewall and Barracuda Backup.
