Dr. David Beltran, DVM was awarded the prestigious Veterinarian of the Year Award at the Purina Pro Plan 58th Annual Show Dogs of the Year® Awards. Live Oak Bank, an exclusive sponsor of the Veterinarian of the Year Award, presented the honor to Dr. Beltran at the black tie event held at the Grand Hyatt Manhattan in New York on February 9, 2013.
“It has been a pleasure working with Dr. Beltran over the past two years,” commented Vince Dailey, Senior Loan Officer for Live Oak Bank. “Not only is he a dedicated veterinarian, he is also a genuinely good person. We are grateful to have him as a customer and feel that he is very deserving of this honor.”
Dr. Beltran was born and raised in East Los Angeles and attended veterinary school at University of California, Davis. He is the owner of Veterinary Healthcare Center, a full-service veterinary medical facility located in Monterey Park, CA.
A long-time volunteer with the Los Angeles Anti-Gang Coalition, Dr. Beltran began working with the California University system on an initiative aimed at encouraging gang members to leave that lifestyle. Determined to help enrich the community he was born and raised in, Dr. Beltran provides job opportunities and training to former gang members, aiding them in their fresh start and to a more promising future.
“Dr. Beltran is an excellent example of how many lives one person can touch, both in their industry and outside of it,” says Lisa MacDonald, event chairperson. “He is an inspiration both for his constant search for ways to improve the lives of others and for the ingenuity he demonstrates in leveraging all of his assets to support a variety of needs and issues in his community.”
In addition to the work he does in support of the people and animals in his practice and his community, Dr. Beltran has spent the last 30 years working on philanthropic projects aimed at helping those who need a champion. He has done extensive work helping indigent residents exit poverty, and is a long-time volunteer with Water For All, a nonprofit providing access to potable water to third world villages and communities.
About Show Dogs
The Show Dogs of the Year Awards have spent the past 58 years celebrating the excellence of the top group winning show dogs, along with their owners, handlers and breeders. In order to win an award, a dog must achieve the most group wins during a single calendar year at American Kennel Club-sanctioned conformation shows. Other recognitions include various awards presented to top professionals within the show dogs industry as well as the Dogs in Review Annual Achievement Awards, affectionately known as the Winkies. Currently the awards are sponsored by Purina® Pro Plan® and presented by Dogs in Review. These awards are presented at a black tie banquet held in New York City immediately prior to the Westminster Kennel Club show in February.
