The “Every Second Counts” television ad was released today by the Committee in support of Proposition A. Proposition A is the upcoming half-cent sales tax increase on the March 5th Citywide ballot that will save the jobs of 500 police officers and go toward vital City services, including fire, police and 911 emergency services

Revenues from Proposition A are expected to generate over $200 million and bolster the City’s general fund, 70% of which goes towards public safety. While the City has made tremendous strides in eliminating a massive structural deficit, the threat of cuts to public safety and other vital City programs remains a serious concern. The 30-second TV spot focuses on the precious moments needed to save lives. The script reads:

Voiceover: Every second counts when it comes to saving lives. When someone's life is at risk, their chance of survival is impacted, even before they come through the ER. Proposition A makes sure that 911 response times for our Paramedics, Firefighters and Police are among the fastest in the nation. Without it, your safety is at risk.

Chief Beck: I’m Charlie Beck. Public safety is now in danger. Please support me by voting Yes on Proposition A.

Proposition A will cost the average Los Angeles resident about $30 per year. These new tax revenues, by law, cannot be applied to food or medicine. Proposition A will also require annual independent audits and public review of expenditures. Most importantly, the funds generated by Proposition A will be safeguarded from the state so that they may be used to maintain vital City of Los Angeles services.
