Haunt Jaunts, formerly known as a travel blog for restless spirits, kicked off the New Year by adding a new interactive feature, a forum. In addition to their blog, the forum joins other pages, including a Haunted Places page, Ghost Tours, Walks & Hunts page, Halloween Haunts page, and Paranormal Events page. The addition warranted the change in tagline from travel blog to travel site.
“Haunt Jaunts started out as just a blog,” Courtney Mroch, the creator of and Director of Paranormal Tourism for Haunt Jaunts, says,“But thanks to the forum and the information pages I’ve added over the years, my little travel blog is more than a blog these days. It’s expanded into a travel site.”
“Little” being a term of endearment. There is nothing “little” about Mroch’s site. She launched it four years ago and has formed it into one of the premier niche haunted travel sites on the Web.
It started when she began adding what she calls “information pages”, the first of which was the Haunted Places page. It contains links to sites that list haunted places or provide haunted places locator maps.
She soon saw a need to create other such pages. That’s how the Ghost Tours, Walks & Hunts and Halloween Haunts pages were created. The former keeps track of sites listing ghost tours, that latter provides sites listing Halloween haunted attractions, including haunted houses, hayrides, and corn mazes.
In the latter part of 2012, Mroch saw the need to add another page to keep track of upcoming Paranormal Events.
“I come across listings for paranormal events, conferences, and horror conventions all the time. I used to write about them as I found them, but I felt like they still got lost in the shuffle and if someone came to our site looking for that kind of info, it wasn’t readily available. I decided to create a page dedicated to keeping track of such events. I update it weekly and welcome tips and submissions.”
In addition to listing paranormal events, conferences, and horror conventions by month, the Paranormal Events page also lists any appearances Courtney will be making on behalf of Haunt Jaunts, such as her bi-monthly “Haunt Jaunt of the Week” segment on “Keeping the Spirits Alive!” on Para-X Radio.
Now the newest addition to the site is an interactive one: a forum.
“Our goal is create a community for paranormal enthusiasts to discuss haunted travel, haunted locations, and all other subjects related to the paranormal,” Mroch says.
The forum consists of two sections: a Community Lounge and a Paranormal Ballroom. Categories in the Community Lounge include a Meet & Greet area, All About All Hallow’s Eve (the Halloween lovers area), a Book Nook, a Screening Room (the movie section), a Radio/Podcasts group, TV Shows discussions, and an Anything Goes area. Categories in the Paranormal Ballroom include sections to discuss Haunted Places, Ghost Tours, Paranormal Events, Paranormal Investigations, and a “Your Ghost Stories” area.
“Thanks to our pages and now our forum, I’ve watched my blog blossom,” Mroch says. “It’s been really exciting to see it grow a little more each year. The forum is particularly exciting because it’s the first thing to really allow visitors to get more involved and create a community. I’m looking forward to watching that develop and to the site continuing to grow.”
