Working on a very tight schedule, Conference Services at Energetics planned and executed the event, which brought together key CERC leaders and partners from both the United States and China to review achievements and plan next steps. U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, China’s Minister of Science and Technology Wan Gang, industry partners, and observers reviewed CERC’s implementation and funding status as well as the achievements of its three research consortia. The meeting also included a business roundtable for CERC partners and concluded with a Minister-led discussion on the future of CERC.
For several years, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has relied on Conference Services at Energetics to organize large international meetings that enable participating governments to discuss issues in climate policy, climate strategy, and clean energy deployment. Working throughout December and the winter holidays to arrange the January CERC Steering Committee Meeting, Conference Services Director MaryLee Blackwood and her team handled site search and selection; contract negotiations; and all logistics, including graphic design, special events, securing simultaneous interpretation services, and on-site management.
Following the meeting, DOE praised Ms. Blackwood and her team for their dedication and professionalism in making the event so successful on such a short deadline.
The U.S.-China CERC facilitates joint research and development on clean energy technology by teams of scientists and engineers from the United States and China. It is a flagship initiative funded in equal parts by the United States and China, with broad participation from universities, research institutions, and industry. The U.S.-China CERC’s three research consortia pursue research and development in building energy efficiency, clean vehicles, and advanced coal technology.
