Although often used to describe a technology consisting of an evaporator and a crystallizer, ZLD is a term that represents a goal. Brine management was a major buzz topic at Singapore International Water Week and Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) is an example of the extreme end of the brine management spectrum in which the brine is reduced down to a solid waste. There are multiple ways of achieving ZLD, with varying costs and complexity. As disposal of brine concentrate from water and wastewater treatment facilities becomes increasingly challenging, ZLD and high-recovery technology is expected to see increasing adoption. Most installed ZLD systems are in industrial applications but there is also the potential for use in seawater and brackish water desalination, particularly at inland desalination plants treating brackish groundwater.
The webinar brings together ZLD technology experts to discuss benefits, drawbacks and market niche for ZLD technology. The current status of system designs will be reviewed, and there will be presentations of the different approaches taken . Various drivers for the adoption of ZLD technology will be explored. Finally, there will be a discussion of prospects, highlighting research needs, new applications, and commercial opportunities. The webinar will include a Q&A session to address specific questions from participants.
