Josh Sommer, chordoma survivor and Executive Director of the Chordoma Foundation, has been recognized by Forbes as one of the “brightest stars” under age 30 for jumpstarting the field of chordoma research and fighting to improve the lives of people affected by chordoma. “Josh is a courageous young man who refused to accept a bad hand lying down; he exemplifies the spirit of Forbes’ 30 Under 30,” said Forbes Executive Editor Michael Noer.
For the second year, Forbes collaborated with experts in diverse industries to develop a list of up-and-comers making waves today, and destined to still be shaking things up years from now, in 15 fields. Sommer, representing science and healthcare, is featured on Forbes’ website and in the January 2013 edition of Forbes Magazine. The complete “30 under 30” list is available at forbes.com/under30.
“I’m honored to be among such a remarkable group of innovators,” says Sommer,“It’s exciting to receive this recognition of our work to accelerate the development of a cure for this once overlooked rare cancer.”
Chordoma (chordomafoundation.org) is a relentless and difficult to treat bone cancer that occurs in the head and spine in people of all ages. Since its inception in 2007, the Chordoma Foundation has systematically funded and facilitated research to develop new treatments, and ultimately a cure, for chordoma. The Foundation has enabled research in over 50 labs worldwide, resulting in significant discoveries on the causes of and potential treatments for chordoma.
