Portland, ME, United States, 2012/12/17 - BioSpecialists, a biohazard cleanup company from Gorham, Maine, is now offering residential sharps container pickup and disposal - Bio-Specialists.com.
BioSpecialists, LLC recently announced that they are offering pickup and disposal of medical needles or “sharps” throughout Maine and New Hampshire. The containers will be handled and disposed of in a manner fully compliant with all biohazard disposal laws and regulations.
Sharps are considered a medical biohazard. Most people who use needles to self-inject medication simply throw the used needles in the trash, which poses a threat to family members and any workers who might handle the trash. While medical facilities normally have regular bio-waste pickup, most individuals do not know where or how to safely dispose of their sharps from their homes.
There is currently no protocol for disposing of sharps, and with the high number of people using needles for medication on a daily basis, it is clearly a safety issue.
In 2011 Maine state legislators wrote a bill, sponsored by state Rep. Melissa Walsh Innes, D-Yarmouth, that would have required manufacturers of sharps to be responsible for disposal.
However, the bill was voted down by the Environment and Resources Committee.
BioSpecialists is fully licensed to handle the transportation and disposal of sharps containers, and can arrange either a one-time pickup or a set schedule of pickups. BioSpecialists is available to pickup at residences or doctor or veterinary offices.
Biospecialists (bio-specialists.com) is a Maine-based company, experienced and qualified in death and trauma cleanup, biohazard cleanup, and medical waste transportation throughout New England. Their team members are fully licensed and bonded.
