Call for Choreographers: Ann Arbor Civic Ballet presents Dance Michigan
“We would like to give the future choreographers of Michigan an opportunity to perform their works in front of a large audience and see other choreographer’s pieces.” said Lee Ann King, Artistic Director of AACB. “The dancers participating will have a chance partake in a full-length concert featuring new works performed by high schools, dance studios, colleges, and companies.”
The performance will take place on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at the Saline High School Ellen Ewing Center for the Performing Arts, featuring an 1,100-seat auditorium with full-fly tower, green room, scene shop and dressing rooms.
The performance is only half of the event; leading up to the showcase performance members and choreographers from the AACB will be traveling to local schools and youth groups to share the enjoyment of dance and especially choreography. A short dance class in multiple styles including ballet, tap, jazz and hip-hop will be taught and groups will have assistance choreographing their own pieces to perform in front of one another. Groups participating in the workshops will receive free tickets to the performance.
“We hope this will help peak an interest in dance and show young people the enjoyment of the performing arts” said King.
