Apps that guide patients with Alzheimer diseases or turn your neighborhood into an augmented reality setting for mobile gaming are but a few examples of this year’s World Summit Award Mobile (WSA-mobile) winners. Biannually the contest selects 40 of the most outstanding and useful apps from all over the world. This year, the Austrian start-up tripwolf stood their ground and made it among the 40 contest winners. The tripwolf travel app for iPhone and Android was top in the category "m-Tourism & Culture." The tripwolf travel app offers over 700 guides to the world’s most beautiful destinations. The app combines up-to-date travel information and tips from the tripwolf community with useful features such as offline maps, an Augmented Reality viewer and a trip planner. With 3 million app downloads the tripwolf app is among the most successful travel guides for smartphones worldwide.
“We are very excited and honored that we won this award against competing apps from all [around the world],” says tripwolf CEO Sebastian Heinzel. “We have worked very hard to build this app and we will continue to improve it.” “Our goal is to find apps that really make a difference for people around the globe”, WSA-mobile Chairman Peter A. Bruck stated, while pointing at the UN agenda of the global award. He continued,“This year’s awardees demonstrate the richness and diversity of mobile apps. And they clearly show that there is a lot going on outside Europe and the USA. If we want to make use of mobile technology’s full potential, these trends must not be ignored.” The next stop for tripwolf and all other winners of this year’s contest is the World Summit of Mobile Diversity in Abu Dhabi.. There WSA-mobile will host a global congress for mobile content from February 3rd to 5th 2013 and an on-site jury will select the mobile champions for 2013.
