The time for Asia has come and the next Google, Facebook and Twitter will come from this part of the world was a matter of debate at the concluding session of Techventure 2012 in Singapore. The concluding session was a Face/Off between the Technopreneurs of the East and the West and holding the fort for the East was Mr Shashank Dixit, CEO, Deskera. It was an interesting debate on whether the centre of gravity was really shifting towards the East.
The recently concluded Techventure 2012 is Asia’s summit event for the world’s most influential investors and iconic innovators.
Speaking as part of the faceoff debate, Mr Shashank Dixit, CEO, Deskera said that it is now a given that Asia will lead the way. He however cautioned that this may not happen overnight, but the next decade will largely shape the ways things would evolve. “The presence of large markets like China & India and the governmental support for ventures by Singapore will go a long way in helping the East build a leadership position”, he said.
Some of the speakers at the panel moderated by Kristine Lauria, Founder & CEO, Tickled Media also debated whether Singapore had the DNA to become the next Silicon Valley. However, most panellists did feel that while Asia would be the center of activity, Singapore did not have a large enough market to emulate Silicon Valley.
Presented by the National Research Foundation (NRF) Singapore, this year’s theme, ‘Asian. Innovation. Renaissance.’, celebrated the vibrant developments taking place in Asia that have helped Asian corporations take the lead and capitalize successfully in many areas of technology. The three-day conference also offered some exciting partnering opportunities between Silicon Valley and Singapore. Some well-known entrepreneurs and investors were also around to explore more technology businesses in Singapore and build subsidiaries locally to access proximate markets.
