Alessi For Children
Christmas with Alessi: Help build a family home in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
This year at Alessi, Christmas will be extra special. By purchasing a product between November 1st-December 24th, you can contribute to a very ambitious project launched by the Crusinallo company: the construction of a family home in the city of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
The Alessi 2012 Christmas campaign is entirely dedicated to this major charity project. For every product sold in every store, in every country across the world, the company will donate one euro to this cause: a significant commitment when you consider the size of the Christmas market of the most famous Dream Factory.
In addition, a dedicated and continuously updated website, alessiforchildren.org, will enable visitors to follow the activities of the charity in detail, step by step, and, if they wish, to find out about and share other initiatives to help abandoned children.
For Alessi, translating art and poetry into objects has long been a way of realising people’s dreams without losing sight of values such as philanthropy and solidarity, which the company has always regarded as an integral part of its identity.
Seven years ago Alessi decided to partner with Ai.Bi. Amici dei Bambini, to support structured initiatives and launch concrete projects, to come to the aid of many children and adolescents across the world that are being brought up in institutions as they wait to be united with a family. “At the beginning philanthropy was just something that we liked doing, something that fit with our family and company culture,” explains Michele Alessi, Managing Director,“over time it has assumed an increasingly important role also from a strategic point of view, further committing the company to the support of charitable causes. This year we have taken another step forward with the creation of a branded campaign – Alessi for Children – and the launch of a campaign to involve all of our customers, all over the world, in the project.”
For over 25 years Ai.Bi. has been fighting against child abandonment, so that every child has the right to be a son or daughter and to have a family. In association with Alessi, a long journey around the world began to make it possible to launch many projects in various countries together. In the last seven years over 300,000 euro has been raised, so that we can contribute to creating a better future for many children in the Ukraine, Colombia, Peru, Nepal, Mongolia, Brazil and Italy, and to making their dreams come true.
The project, beginning at Christmas 2012, will visit Africa for the first time in one of the poorest and most needy countries on the continent: The Democratic Republic of the Congo. For many years it has been torn apart by conflict and civil war, with hundreds of thousands of children growing up on the streets with no family: one in ten children are orphans and the infant mortality rate is the highest in Sub-Saharan Africa. Many children are banished from their communities because they are absurdly accused of witchcraft. In the city of Kinshasa, where 20,000 minors live on the streets with no home to return to, Alessi and Ai.Bi. have an ambitious project: opening the first real home for abandoned children that require responsible and comprehensive assistance but, even more so, who need to live with a real family again – their own where possible, or a new one – through domestic and international adoption.
With a vast product line that includes everything from an iconic, whistling teakettle to a designer flyswatter, the Alessi company (alessi.com), founded in 1921 by Giovanni Alessi, has long been at the forefront of innovative and inspired product design. The company has created a dynasty out of not only offering products geared towards the mainstream – serving trays and everyday cutlery among them – but by also creating some of the most celebrated cult objects of our time.
