The addition of two roof-top antennas and a wooden pole increase the overall capacity the 4G network in Weyburn by over 80 percent. This improves performance to the point where the technical performance for dropped calls is approximately 1% and dropped data sessions are approximately 0.5% – both below the target performance specifications for 4G network performance.
“I’m pleased to announce an 80% increase in network capacity in Weyburn, supporting our commitment to build and power the largest, fastest and most complete wireless network in the Province,” said Dustin Duncan, MLA for Weyburn-Big Muddy. “This increase in service will reduce dropped calls to less than 1% in the Weyburn area.”
The locations in Weyburn, along with 4G coverage details increase the number of sector-carriers serving the City of Weyburn from 10 sector-carriers to 30 sector-carriers. This includes:
• Weyburn Hospital: The addition of a roof-top antenna increases adds 3 sectors each with 3 carriers.
• SaskTel Work Centre: The addition of a wooden pole at the SaskTel work centre adds 3 sectors each with 3 separate carriers.
• SaskTel Central Distribution Office: An antenna at the SaskTel CDO adds 3 sectors each with 3 separate carriers.
A carrier increases network capacity by adding more radio frequency channels. Each additional carrier added to a site will increase the network capacity at that site by an incremental amount. Adding 1 additional carrier approximately doubles network capacity. Going from 2 to 3 additional carriers increases network capacity by approximately 50% above that and going from 3 to 4 additional carriers increases capacity by a further 33%. Increasing sectors adds an antenna which further improves coverage and capacity.
