Bob Poiesz, Vice-chair of ASC X12N welcomed the attendees saying,“It is an honor and a privilege to welcome the Clearinghouse Caucus on behalf of ASC X12 and ASC X12N. As a volunteer organization, our success is tied directly to the participation and success of our members and the industries we support. This venue provides a new forum for collaboration within health care. Clearinghouses play a critical role and their expanding support and participation is a positive omen for the future of administrative savings through electronic data interchange.”
Caucus chairman, Joseph Gonzalez, Senior Vice President of Secure EDI and President of the Cooperative Exchange, led attendees to identify five areas of collaboration which the ASC X12 Clearinghouse Caucus would address:
1. Stakeholder collaboration, reduction of administrative burden and increase adoption of EDI solutions;
2. EDI Enrollment;
3. Understanding issues of clearinghouses (i.e. removing “Black Box” perspective);
4. Emerging regulation/legislative landscape (i.e. operating rules, HPID/OEID, workers’ compensation state legislation); and
5. ICD-10-CM industry collaboration.
Commenting on the involvement, Joseph noted,“There was a high level of interest and participation across healthcare industry stakeholders which provided the foundation for a successful caucus. We have a genuine responsibility to every patient and provider of healthcare related services to develop efficiencies and drive cost out of the system. The Cooperative Exchange is pleased to have established a dialogue with ASC X12 and looks forward to a continued collaboration”
The meeting also had two presentations. Betty Gomez, Vice President of IT Operations Support at ZirMed, and ASC X12 Provider Information co-chair provided an overview of the EDI enrollment work group efforts. Betty encouraged attendees interested in EDI enrollment to join the workgroup by sending an email to betty.gomez[.]zirmed.com Rachel Foerster, Senior Consultant for CAQH/CORE provided an update regarding the pending operating rules.
The next ASC X12 Clearinghouse Caucus meeting will take place in conjunction with the Standing Committee meeting January, 20 – 24, 2013 in Seattle, WA.
