Through this honor, he joins the ranks of astronauts such as Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong and Alan Bean, as well as engineers such as Bradford Parkinson, the “father of the Global Positioning System.”

Alfano has been a major contributor to the space operations community for more than 30 years at both the policy and technical development levels. He is also an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).
