Philippine IT solutions provider Pointwest calls for stronger business ties with New Zealand, after industry experts affirm the Philippines’s status as a mature location for software services.

At a recent Members Forum organized by the Philippine-New Zealand Business Council (PNZBC), Pointwest President Beng Coronel revealed that the Philippines was now more equipped to handle more IT contracts. She singled out the country’s relationship with New Zealand, citing Pointwest’s business engagement with one of the largest gas companies in the Pacific nation.

Ms Coronel, who was the event’s guest speaker, presented a case study on this particular gas company and highlighted in her discussion Pointwest’s involvement in pipeline operations. Pointwest developed a transmission information system to facilitate third-party access to the Maui pipeline, which entailed cleaning up over 800,000 lines of software codes. The Philippine IT firm also handles its system and user integration testing, having released more than 30 major and minor enhancements in the last three years.

It was Pointwest’s good experience working with a New Zealand company that prompted Ms Coronel to strongly recommend developing more IT ventures. She added that the company’s New Zealand client was even “surprised we (the Philippines) had such mature capabilities to address critical technology requirements.”

Before wrapping up her talk, Ms Coronel vouched for the readiness of the Philippines to play a bigger role in the global market, starting with a solid partnership with New Zealand’s IT sector.
