For 2013, RANA ROJO unveils their new swim/resort collection LA LUCHA within the gorgeous setting of the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. The event takes place concurrently with Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim and the Swimwear Association of Florida Trade and Swim Show. Swim Week isn’t just a fashion show—it brings together swimwear designers, buyers, photographers, models and party producers into one glorious and rather hectic five days of fashion and fun.
LA LUCHA 2013 resort collection is largely inspired by Lucha Libre -- the now global, masked wrestling phenomenon first popularized in Mexico in the 1940s. The provocatively playful and vibrant masks gave impetus to designers Ash Rana and Damian Rojo to translate this cultural phenomenon into a collection that shares the uninhibited use of color and ingenious appliqué work into distinct wearable garments for the modern woman. Their broad range of swimsuits and cover-ups will take you from day to night, from practical elegance to calculate extravagance. Custom prints for LA LUCHA fearlessly weave indigenous textile patterns, free-hand drawings, collage and punk ‘zine’ aesthetic into a cultural quilt. LA LUCHA embodies a celebration of life where you choose masks to bring forth inner spirit and embody your personal mythology.
RANA ROJO
Born in Katmandu, Nepal, designer Ash Rana and Cuban born, fine artist Damian Rojo merged their talents and formed Rana Rojo in 2008. During Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2011 their Swim Vixen-Swim line was launched to an exuberant, capacity filled room of fashion insiders at The Standard’s Miami Beach Lido Lounge. This collection was inspired by 50s delicates, orientalism, and 60s film femme fatales. Each distinctive piece in the collection was hand dyed and screen-printed. Rana Rojo’s designs are rooted in history, architecture, and experiment.
