Minneapolis Animal Care & Control and Sidewalk Dog announce their joint efforts to encourage responsible pet ownership. This new partnership between the city-run Animal Shelter and the local online dog-friendly resource is a groundbreaking effort to encourage residents to comply with pet ownership laws and to reward those who do with extra incentives.
In Minneapolis, fines for unlicensed pets start at $100 and can go up to $2,000. The cost of a 1-year license for a spayed or neutered animal is just $25. Although there are estimated to be more than 800,000 pet dogs in the Twin Cities area, currently approximately just 14,000 are licensed with the City of Minneapolis.
Funds from licenses support a myriad of Minneapolis Animal Care & Control programs and services, including investigating animal welfare and cruelty cases, kenneling at no-cost for victims of domestic abuse, and emergency vet care for injured animals brought to the animal shelter.
• Gives your pet a free ride home if she is licensed and found in Minneapolis;
• Offers free kenneling for pets of people leaving violent relationships;
• Hosts weekly spay and neuter programs with MN SNAP;
• Works with area rescue groups to foster and rehome stray and abandoned pets;
• Investigates and files charges in animal welfare and cruelty cases;
• Provides public education about responsible pet ownership.
“Our goal at Sidewalk Dog is to help make the Twin Cities one of the best places in the country for dogs, and we are excited to be able to help residents get their pet licenses in a fast, easy way,“ says Ali Jarvis, founder of Sidewalk Dog. “In fact, it’s so important to us and to our partners that Subaru of America, Solid Gold Northland and Metro Dogs Daycare and Boarding here in Minneapolis are offering high value incentives to make the decision to comply with the law a little easier.”
Each person who purchases a pet license from Sidewalk Dog will receive five free car washes from local Subaru dealerships, pet food and supplement coupons from Solid Gold Northland plus one free day of doggy daycare at Metro Dogs, all for the purchase of one license which supports so many wonderful services provided by Minneapolis Animal Care and Control.
