Here, at the Iga Campus, Mori Seiki produces medium to large CNC machines and key components such as spindles, ball screws and machine housings. A new plant for the precision manufacturing of machine beds and travelling columns has also been located at this site since April. During Innovation Days, there will be live demonstrations of 37 future-oriented machine tools, including 12 new machines.
The Innovation Days program will demonstrate a wide range of chip-removal solutions. Technical focus during the three-day event will be on the 15 multi-axis machining centers, which include seven 5-axis milling machines from the GILDEMEISTER Group. Both Mori Seiki and its German cooperation partner concentrate on maximum process integration and highly efficient and progressive machining processes in their machine portfolio. This is also shown by the selection of high-tech lathes, Ultrasonic machines and laser machining models on display. In addition, workpieces from the automobile industry, the aerospace field, medical engineering and the energy sector document the equally holistic and customer-oriented expertise of the two partner companies.
Alongside the machine exhibition, the Innovation Days agenda also includes selected seminars on DMG products and the latest chip-removal technologies. Also worthy of note are the daily plant visits which include the assembly plant and the factory for metal-cutting machining, as well as a visit to the new machine bed and travelling column plant. This new plant for machining large components is designed to the latest standards. Maximum temperature variations of 0.5°C and central tool and fixture management for reduced set-up times are just two testaments to the high standard. Mori Seiki will be able to further increase its product quality and manufacturing productivity on this basis.
Around 10,000 visitors are expected to the Innovation Days. Free shuttle buses will be available from Nagoya and Shin-Osaka train stations for transportation to the Iga Campus.

The new MILLTAP 700 milling-drilling centre will be demonstrated to visitors to "Innovation Days" using three applications as an example. As well as the high-speed milling of aluminum and the heavy machining of steel, Mori Seiki will also be demonstrating 4-axis machining with a rotary table. The capacity of the machine is up to 60% higher than with conventional models thanks to the 25 kW high-performance spindle. At the same time, the fast and highly accurate rotary table is so compact that optimum use can be made of the work area of the MILLTAP 700 even when machining on 4 axes. As a result, the machining spectrum of the MILLTAP 700 itself includes complex components as well as turbine components.
The new ECOLINE series is also part of the exhibition in Iga. A completely revised design and extended functional scope characterize the latest generation of entry-level machines from the GILDEMEISTER concern. A better view of the work area and improved working ergonomics were at the forefront of the new design. Faster traverse speeds and a greater choice of spindles are likewise arguments in favor of the new ECOLINE range.
DMU 80 eVo linear
During the Innovation Days, the high-speed 5-axis machining centre equipped with linear drives will be machining different workpieces which are all mounted in a rotating holder. With the swivel rotary table and fast traverse speeds of 80 m/min, the DMU 80 eVo linear not only offers flowing, high-speed 5-axis machining, but also the heavy machining of steel using a powerful 15 kW spindle with a torque of 130 Nm.
Progressive chip-removal processes, which significantly increase the potential of multi-axis machines, will be demonstrated on this model. For example, process times for the manufacture of gears can be reduced by up to 80% thanks to complete machining. Another example is turning using the so-called "spinning tool", with which the extremely fast and highly efficient chip removal increases productivity by a factor of five.
The latest CNC lathe in the NLX series impresses with extremely stable turning of large workpieces. This is made possible by the highly rigid construction as well as the high-torque spindle (max. 100 Nm). As a result, processing can be carried out into the heavy machining range, which is otherwise the domain of machining centers.
NVX5000 II series
During the "Innovation Days", Mori Seiki (dmgmoriseikiusa.com) will be showing three models with different table sizes from the NVX series of vertical machining centers. Specially chosen chip-removal operations will highlight the key features of each model. In an example from the tool and mold making sector, it has been possible to improve the surface roughness by a factor of 2 thanks to the NMV5000 II/40. At the same time, the machining time has been reduced by 60% compared with its predecessor. As well as this imposing exhibit, the NVX5080 II/40 and NVX5100 II/50 will also be displayed. Both successful models are equipped with rotary tables from the DDRT range. As an example, the NVX5080 II/40 relies on the 5AX-DDRT200 rotary table which enables 5-axis machining to be carried out with ideal tool length and optimum chip-removal conditions. This enables much reduced machining times to be realized, particularly in the case of hard machining.
ULTRASONIC 55 linear
Thanks to the integral combination of 5-axis HSC milling and Ultrasonic machining, the ULTRASONIC 55 linear offers fast and efficient chip removal, particularly with hard brittle materials. At the same time, the synergy of linear drives, high-speed spindles and 5-axis technology opens up the world of highly complex workpiece geometries.
