India’s suppliers of footwear are confident export sales will increase up to 20 percent in 2012 by utilizing easy access to leather raw materials, skills labors in concentrated production hubs and enhanced product quality and R&D.
That is according to India Sourcing Report Footwear with the support of Global Sources (NASDAQ: GSOL (globalsources.com) in development.
The Report features profiles of 24 experienced exporters with verified manufacturing and production capacity. It also includes descriptions, prices and packaging details for more than 150 top-selling export products ranging from men and women’s sandals, sneakers and fashion boots.
Of the participating companies, 83 percent continue to focus on EU market, while 8 and 9 percent of those intend to expand their export market to Middle East and North America respectively.
“The world’s second-largest footwear supplier, India benefits from a number of competitive advantages that help it grow over the years,” said Khiem Vu, Program manager of The Kearny Alliance’s Export Assistance Program.
“These include a strong synergy of raw leather industry, which enables suppliers to easily access to various grades of hides and skins, a large pool of more than 2,000 tanneries with roughly 2,5 million people and excellent OEM capability for big brands such as Nike, Reebok, Clarks, Ecco and so on.
“In addition, suppliers in the sector have received training from the local associations including shoe design and technology, fashion and visual merchandising, and other business-related courses to help themselves advance competitiveness in the market.”
Survey results outline target export markets, product and price trends
In addition to industry overview and prices forecasts, the Report offers survey results from featured suppliers. High-level results show:
83 percent will target EU;
46 percent plan to improve fit, breathability or durability;
74 percent expect to increase export sales by up to 5 percent; and
90 percent of export product is leather footwear.
Featured suppliers have a combined export sales of $212.2 million a month. The least expensive shoes items are priced from $4 for a pair of sports shoes with basic designs, made of PVC, cotton or polyester uppers and EVA or TPR insoles and outsoles, while average prices of high-end shoes are about $20.
