The International Book Awards honor knowledge, creativity, wisdom & global cooperation through the written word. Winners and finalists were announced in over 100 categories covering print, e-books and audio books. Awards were presented for titles published in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
"Makers of the Environment" was written by architect and futurist, Finith Jernigan, FAIA, and published by 4Site Press. The book shows how individuals and organizations can personally take advantage of emerging technologies in the built environment, to make the world a much better place. "Makers" features one of the first prototypes for integrating a print book with the web to model the inner workings of these technologies for readers.
"Makers" focuses on the fact that we can now take complex information, and make it available in simple ways that benefit everyone. No longer must one be an expert to take advantage of the complexity that surrounds us. The trick is to make information available, when and where people must make decisions, without requiring them to interact with the underlying complexity.
Nigel Davies, of the Evolve Consultancy says of "Makers of the Environment": “Instead of a work of dry technical theories, Finith manages to exemplify concepts clearly and with real application. Finith has a wealth of knowledge to share and shares it very well. The “almost reality” style is so well written and so close to what we could, and should, be doing with our information models, that I was wondering if I’d missed out on some major changes in the industry. At least with this book, you’ll be in a strong position to play catch-up. For once a technical business book is worth adding to your night time reading list.”
Finith Jernigan also wrote the Axiom award winning,"BIG BIM little bim - The Practical Approach to Building Information Modeling", which was the first book to demystify the way that new processes in the built environment can increase the power of small organizations. The book helps people to understand the predictive power of integrated processes.
This year’s contest yielded a large number of entries from authors and publishers around the world, which were then narrowed down to the final results. Jeffrey Keen, President and CEO of JPX Media Group, says of the awards,“The 2012 results represent a phenomenal mix of books from a wide array of publishers throughout the world. IBA’s success begins with the enthusiastic participation of authors and publishers and continues with our distinguished panel of industry judges who bring to the table their extensive editorial, PR, marketing, and design expertise.”
