Dayton, OH, United States, 2012/05/09 - LaserSpeed gauge provides a more accurate measurement solution over contact-type methods, enabling steel mills to significantly increase productivity and quality - LaserSpeedGauge.com / BetaLaserMike.com.
Beta LaserMike, a leading global provider of precision measurement and control solutions, introduces the LaserSpeed® gauge to help steel manufacturers accurately and consistently measure the length and speed of continuous slab, billet, and bloom casters during production.
Precision speed and length measurements are critical for controlling production costs and improving process control for the steel industry. Traditional contact measurement systems, such as contact rollers and tachometers, have inherent problems with slippage and mechanical wear. This creates unwanted scrap, costly maintenance, and reduces product quality.
The LaserSpeed gauge from Beta LaserMike uses advanced, laser-based technology to precisely measure the length and speed of products during manufacturing without making contact. It projects a unique pattern on the product’s surface. As the product moves, light is scattered back to the gauge. This information is translated into product speed and pulses are produced to determine the product length. LaserSpeed has no moving parts, is permanently calibrated, and has a +0.05% measurement accuracy (0.02% repeatability), making it the ideal replacement for contact tachometers.
Beta LaserMike offers a complete series of LaserSpeed gauges to operate in harsh steel production mill environments:
• LS8000 Series – precisely measures length and speed at stand-off distances ranging from 300 mm to over 2,500 mm (12 in. to 98.4 in), and speeds up to 20,000 m/min (65,000 ft/min.)
• LS9000 Series – measures zero speed (no movement) and automatically detects forward and reverse direction
• LS8000E/9000E – enclosed in a rugged environmental housing for double-sealed protection of hot and hostile environments
• LS8000X/9000X – enclosed in a stainless-steel housing for the toughest, extreme environments where heavy steam, mist, and spray occur.
