The exhibition features 130 large-format photographs, including 14 new images of Brazil.

The exhibition was officially opened on 26 April in the presence of representatives of the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, the Municipal Chamber of Rio de Janeiro, the French Consulate, Yann Arthus-Bertrand and DCNS.

The collection of photographs offers rare insight into Earth’s natural beauty and the fragility of the planet. The exhibition is an important opportunity for education and heightened awareness, with organised visits by students and school children from across the State of Rio de Janeiro. In addition to the photography exhibition, regular meetings and debates are being organised on the environment and conservation issues, and public screenings of Home, Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s latest film, are scheduled daily.

DCNS support for the exhibition testifies to the company’s close relations with Brazil and its commitment to sustainable development. DCNS was one of the first companies in the industry to achieve ISO 14001 certification, and, as an active participant in the development of the Brazilian naval industry, the company has a natural role to play in supporting this important exhibition.

Building on its expertise in marine and maritime technologies, DCNS is also an innovator in the field of marine renewable energy, developing advanced solutions that will help to tap into the enormous energy potential of the world’s oceans. Today the DCNS group is the only company to offer a full range of marine renewable energy technologies including floating offshore wind farms, ocean thermal energy conversion solutions, tidal turbines and wave power generators.

Brazil selected DCNS in 2008 for a major submarine programme with the Brazilian Navy. The company is responsible for the design and production, under a technology transfer arrangement, of four conventionally powered submarines, and for design and production assistance for the country’s first nuclear-powered submarine. DCNS is also providing support for the construction of a new naval base and shipyard in Brazil.
