The Greenville City Council has declared May National Bike Month in Greenville. May 9 is Bike-to-School Day and May 18 is Bike-to-Work Day, according to Andy Meeker, Bikeville. Meeker adds,"Bikeville, the City of Greenville's Bicycle Friendly Community initiative, has numerous events planned for National Bike Month, and is excited by the number of partners and organizations planning, supporting and promoting bicycling during May in Greenville. Detailed information can be found on The City of Greenville's website.
Pedal Chic (the first women's-specific bike shop in the country) located in downtown Greenville is partnering with three organizations to share cycling experience and knowledge, and to make cycling available to more residents in the community. "It makes sense for us to work with the City of Greenville, LiveWell Greenville, and the community bike groups sponsored by Building Dreams Mentoring Program (Sterling Spinners and Nicholtown Spinners) to promote the Greenville Hospital System's Swamp Rabbit Trail. Our mission is to get more people on bikes and to adopt biking as a mode of transportation, exercise and socializing", says Robin Bylenga, Proprietor of Pedal Chic. Pedal Chic will be hosting a mentoring information open house on the Patio [.] Pedal Chic, 651B South Main Street, Greenville, SC on Friday, May 4th from 4:30-6:00 PM. The public is invited to stop in to learn the importance of mentoring and how to get involved with Building Dreams.
"We will be participating in various activities during the month of May in our shop and with our partners, Greenville Hospital System and the City of Greenville, to promote National Bike Month sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists. Pedal Chic is available to discuss anyaspect of cycling and biking. Please contact us if we can help in anyway with bike safety and awareness, choosing equipment, and advocacy issues", Bylenga offers. Pedal Chic offers group support for road rides, trail rides and family rides, to help cyclists at every level of expertise. More information on the group rides can be found on Pedal Chic's website.
Please contact Pedal Chic if you would like photos, quotes, news clips, and a location to host events and press conferences. We will be happy to take you on guided rides of the area, too. Our mission is to promote cycling during the month of May, and throughout the year. For more information, contact Robin Bylenga at 864-242-2442 or Wendy Lynam at 864-517-4617.
