PC Magazine, the region’s most influential and largely read technology magazine, has announced the results for long running Manufacturer of the Year awards for 2005-2006. The coveted awards acknowledge manufacturer excellence, and are based on hands-on product reviews conducted by the PC Magazine labs team.
“PC Magazine’s Manufacturer of the Year Awards is based on the same transparent methodology that our labs team uses,” said Mr. Bala Menon, General Manager, DIT Group. “The awards are based on a systematic tally of products that have won recommendations in PC Magazine’s group tests and reviews. Companies that have sent in the most number of winning products in a category over the previous year are given the overall award for that category, and the manufacturer that wins the largest number of category awards is the overall Manufacturer of the Year.”
For each submitted product, the PC Magazine lab teams deliberated over a wide variety of parameters such as innovation, product distinctiveness, quality, performance, pricing, image and packaging. The magazine also looked for companies having shown versatility in triumphing over the odds, carved a new niche in the market, or shown innovative leadership in their product strategy.
Categories for the awards included Desktop PCs, Notebooks, Processors, Motherboards, Graphics Cards, Hard Disk Drives, Inkjet Printers, LCD Monitors, and Peripherals grouped under “IT products and components”; Laser Printers, Multi Function Printers, Network Storage, Projectors, Wireless Routers, and Security Software under “Building Blocks”; and Digital Cameras, Smart Phones, Photo Printers, Media Players, LCD TVs and Flash Memory under “Consumer Electronics”.
PC Magazine has become the most reliable source for reviews and news in the region by forging strong relationships with IT buyers, professionals and manufacturers. Combining international IT coverage with product analyses, reviews and documented results of rigorous Lab testing, the magazine is renowned as an authoritative source of technology and consumer electronics information.
PC Magazine was the first regional magazine to offer LCD TV comparisons, MIMO wireless router tests, Small Form Factor PCs and Multi-Function Printers group tests, an Islamic gadgets group test, and a Serial ATA hard drive shootout.
“Readers trust PC Magazine for their buying decisions,” said. Hatim Kantawalla, Editor in Chief, DIT Publishing, “This trust has been built through numerous detailed reviews and comprehensive group tests representing all main manufacturers in any category. This year alone, the PC Magazine lab team tested and reviewed over 800 products.”
Samsung bagged the Overall PC Magazine Manufacturer of the Year Award by winning the maximum number of awards through the year. The electronics manufacturer won across a diverse set of categories including laser printers, photo printers, media players, LCD TVs, and LCD monitors.
The winner list also includes Panasonic for its digital camera line up, HP for Desktop PCs and Inkjet Printers, Creative Technologies in Media Players and Speakers, with Western Digital carrying the prizes in the Hard Disk Drives and Network Storage categories.
