He is also the ED Medical Director at Summa Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital in Wadsworth, OH.

Summa Health Center at Lake Medina is a beautiful, brand new facility that opened in November 2011 with a 24-hour free-standing Emergency Department. The ED opened its doors December 14, 2011. Approximately 11,000 emergency patient visits are anticipated annually.
Dr. Smith started with EMP at Massillon Community Hospital in August 2001, served as Interim Director at Massillon, and was promoted to Director in July 2006. He became Director of the ED at Barberton Citizens Hospital (now Summa Barberton Hospital) on July 1, 2007. He completed EMP’s prestigious Scholars Program. In 2005, he became the president of the EMS Medical Control Board for Stark County.
Dr. Smith received his bachelor of science degree cum laude in chemistry/premed from John Carroll University in University Heights, OH. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, OH. He completed his emergency medicine residency at Akron General Medical Center in Akron, OH. Dr. Smith is residency trained and board certified in emergency medicine. Also, he is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
