Team Bike Challenge (and Company Bike Challenge), presented by Chipotle, is a month-long competition as part of the San Francisco Bay Area’s Bike to Work Day. The challenge unites bay area individuals in pushing themselves to commute by bike throughout the month of May.
Here is how it works: form a team of up to 5; bike as much as you can in May. Companies can also get in on the competition by joining the Company Bike Challenge. Record your trips at teambikechallenge.com and earn points for daily mileage. At the end of the month, the team with the highest points wins prizes from Chipotle, REI, Peak Racks and more importantly, bragging rights.
Due to the growing demands of Team Bike Challenge, it has been moved off the Bay Area Bicycle Coalition’s site to a dedicated Team Bike Challenge site. 2011’s participants surpassed 2010’s by 30%, and the site expects to see over 850 individuals competing and logging their miles come May 1st. Created by Collectively, LLC the site allows miles to be recorded, not only in May, but year-round on both the mobile and website.
With the competition slated to start on May 1st and run throughout the month, individuals, teams and companies from throughout the bay area are signing up from all segments of industry. Everyone is getting in on the fun: from Lockheed Martin to Trumer Brauerei; from the freelance contractor to Apple. If you work and have a bike, you can participate in Team Bike Challenge.
The San Francisco Bay Area's annual Bike to Work Day is made possible through the generous support of presenting sponsors: 511.org, Metropolitan Transportation Commission, and Kaiser Permanente. Chipotle and BikeMS have provided additional support for Team Bike Challenge.
