Northbrook, IL, United States, 2012/04/02 - F.E. Moran, Fire Protection South was nominated for a 2012 Heroes and Helping Hands Award in the Exceptional Aid to the Champaign Fire Department category by the Champaign Fire Department (CFD) Prevention Division on February 14.

This nomination follows a Fire Protection South sponsored educational initiative for the CFD.
Heroes and Helping Hands awards Champaign community members annually for stepping up to assist the fire department or police department in a time of need. There are several award categories including Exceptional Aid to a Citizen in Need, Exceptional Aid to the Champaign Fire Department, Exceptional Aid to a Firefighter in Need, Exceptional Aid to Citizens and Emergency Service Providers in Need, Exceptional Aid to a Community in Need, and Exceptional Aid to a Police Department. Citizens are awarded for such acts as proving a viable witness resulting in an arrest, volunteering to aid victims, or assisting in a life saving act. In Fire Protection South’s case, the nomination came from volunteering to provide 99 firefighters and administration with fire safety education.
Fire Protection South’s Mr. John Bridgeman, Service Manager, provided visiting leaders and administration from the UI campus, Parkland, and visiting universities with a demonstration of the difference between a sprinkler-controlled fire and an uninhibited fire with employee-built side-by-side units. Firefighters saw first-hand the statistics that show 47 out of 50 fires would be contained to the point of origin with the use of a sprinkler system. The CFD Prevention Division gave Mr. John Bridgeman a special thank you for educating the department on the importance of sprinkler systems.
