Paul Saucier’s oil on canvas works are a study of universal experiential realities. Inspired by the sublime terrain of his current local, a picturesque mountain region of Canada, Saucier’s creative process involves drawing energetically from his environment. Swooping animal forms meet swirling, sweeping formations of richly layered oil in these dreamlike and magical tableaux. Paul Saucier’s highly saturated, carefully composed vignettes portray a journey of self-discovery reflecting the wisdom to be found by those willing to seek it and a holistic creativity that adds a layer of wonder and magic to the whole. The ethereal body in full color emerges throughout the series to produce a powerful, multidimensional and reverential subject. Saucier explains,“[The] emotions of my heart and mind are transformed by light and color into intimate places.”

Paul Saucier was born 1958 in Canada’s national capital of Ottawa. Among his most important influences he counts his teachers Jacques Hurtubise, Kenneth Lochhead and Charles Gagnon, as well as his father, a practicing architect.

About the Exhibition
Two excellent collective exhibitions will be gracing the walls of Agora Gallery this spring, in addition to a remarkable solo exhibition featuring the works of Austrian artist Fred Friedrich. Elements of Abstraction presents art with the ability to induce a shift in perspective, allowing the viewer to reach new conclusions about what they see and experience that vision in different ways. Portals of Perception displays works which seem to breathe with creative energy and inspiration, and a passionate joy in the world and its complexities which they pass, in turn, to those who see them. In Fin de Ciel: Fred Friedrich / a Solo Exhibition the audience is introduced to the tremendously powerful artwork of a man who is constantly engaged in exploring the balance between the figurative and the abstract, the fluid and the definite. The result is a mesmerizing collection of works which speak across barriers of culture, place or time to reach fundamental elements of existence. The exhibitions will begin on March 30, 2012 and will run until April 19, 2012. The opening reception will take place on April 5, 2012. Entrance is free and all art enthusiasts are warmly encouraged to attend and meet the artists responsible for these enthralling creations.
