In line with Alashanek Ya Balady Association for Sustainable Development (AYB-SD)’s vital role in investing in potentials and capabilities of youth and adolescents, AYB-SD launched yesterday the “Dolce Successful Youth” Project, implemented though its Education and Awareness Program, in partnership with and sponsored by Nestle Egypt. The launching ceremony was held at the Dolce Secondary School in the area of Al Barageel in Giza.
“Dolce Successful Youth” is a project initiated by Nestle Egypt in cooperation with AYB-SD to empower secondary school students to plan for their careers, through a learning methodology which relies on giving them the necessary skill set and information, in turn enabling them to make suitable career choices and achieve their goals. The project also aims to introduce 22 different job options to the students, in attempt to break the social stereotypes against certain vocations and shed a different light on what it means to succeed in one’s life. The curriculum was designed by AYB-SD, which also conducted the “Training of Trainers” for instructors delivering the sessions to students. Furthermore, the program aims to instill a set of social values which will facilitate a positive interaction with their surrounding community. This will give students a sense of vision to be able to set career goals and be on the proper path towards achieving them, in turn contributing to Egypt’s development.
The program consists of seven life skills sessions, aiming at helping students to make decisions regarding their choice of post high school education and subsequent career path. The curriculum was designed to engage students in the learning process by learning through open discussion and sharing experiences. Discussions will be conducted through a unique active learning approach, employing games and interactive learning activities, which serves to make students a vital part of the learning process and be able to apply the learnt skills. The sessions will end with a graduation project by each of the students, demonstrating the values and abilities acquired throughout the program.
The seven sessions will proceed as follows; “Planning my future”,“Setting my goals”,“Overcoming challenges”,“I’m an initiator”,“I’m creative”,“Introduction to career path” and “Choosing my career path”, and they are set to include social values covering honesty, respect, cleanliness of the environment and water conservation, development of healthy relationships, healthy nutrition, volunteerism and social responsibility, having a positive impact in the community, and freedom of expression and respect for the opinions of others.
The first introductory session has been conducted and will be followed by the remaining sessions over the course of approximately two months, at the rate of one session per class per week, covering approximately 240 first year secondary students. This program comes in line with AYB’s vision of creating an economically independent society through building human capacity so that beneficiaries are able to have control over their own lives and look forward to a brighter future.
