Following the the Academy Awards last weekend, the buzz surrounding "The Artist" helped bring forth an exciting new production company. Today, partners are proud to announce the formation of Prosody Pictures, which, under the leadership of camera veteran Mark Colicci and production newcomer Derek Shields, will focus on development of new properties and branded content.
Prosody Pictures will operate under a three-pronged strategy. First, it will develop and produce content for traditional distribution through studio, network, cable and syndication. Second, it will develop and produce non-traditional branded content to reach across all digital platforms, including established web and mobile conduits, and third, it will marry advertising clients with marketplace demands.
Prosody Pictures' two primary leaders are personally and professional well-matched. During his more than two decades in the industry, founder Mark Colicci has created award-winning imagery through his masterful camera work on a number of successful films, television shows and advertisement campaigns. Recent films include the Oscar frontrunner "The Artist." as well as "Red State," "Fast Five," and a host of others. Television credits include "Justified," "Mad Men," "Heroes," "24," and "Alias." In the advertising realm, Mark has worked on numerous successful product campaigns including KFC, Pepsi, Levi's, Coca Cola, Nike and others.
Co-founder Derek Shields is new to the industry but found the set like a second home as an assistant to Director Jim Manera, a high-profile industry veteran who at present is poised to begin filming "Lombardi," an NFL film starring John Travolta and Joan Allen for which he also wrote the screenplay. Honing his skills under the mentorship of Manera, Shields is working on both coasts simultaneously developing projects for commercial, documentary purposes and television. Derek, an accomplished technophile well-versed with digital marketing via the web and numerous social media platforms, is also scripting a dramatic procedural based upon his previous 20-year career as a flight paramedic and firefighter.
According to Derek,"Today's strategic marketers consistently seek new and inventive platforms for effective delivery of entertainment, brand engagement, and ongoing interaction with consumers. The formation of Prosody Pictures allows our team's combined knowledge to immediately offer high-end, creative production skills and innovative branded content via both traditional media and digital interaction. I am thrilled to join with Mark, a prolific industry professional with a proven track record of successful projects, in creating a company with the scale and capabilities to develop properties on a multitude of levels."
"Partnering with such a forward-thinking person as Derek not only gives Prosody Pictures the ability to hit the ground running, but also provides access to a unique out of the box visionary," explains Mark Colicci. "There is no better partner for this unique collaboration whose support allows me to aggressively focus on capturing compelling content for network, cable, and digital distribution."
Prosody Pictures (prosodypictures.com) is currently building teams to dynamically develop projects for both unscripted television and digital media and has several shows already in development. Its first show,"Malibu Vet," is currently in production. "Malibu Vet" profiles Dr. John Lupo and his family-run Malibu vet clinic, located in the celebrity-rich surfing mecca of Point Dume. Crews film in a high-end yet compassionately-staffed veterinarian office featuring the most sophisticated instruments and an always-at-the-ready operating room. The show captures Dr. Lupo and his staff as they care for animals in crisis while providing routine care and client education to non-celebrities and celebrities alike.
