Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian has expanded its world-class breast center in Newport Beach with the opening of a satellite center in the Woodbridge community of Irvine, further enhancing its status as the largest and most state-of-the-art facility of its kind in Southern California.
The new Hoag Imaging and Breast Center in Hoag Health Center Woodbridge, on Barranca Parkway, represents Hoag’s ongoing commitment in the fight against breast cancer. The new center, set to open February 7, will make it convenient for patients, who live some distance from Newport Beach, to receive many of the revolutionary services that have propelled Hoag Breast Care Center to national prominence, including 3D digital breast tomosynthesis for breast cancer screening.
Hoag Breast Care Center, in September, became the first breast care center in California and one of only a handful in the United States to offer 3D digital breast tomosynthesis, a revolutionary technology that is especially promising in the detection of breast cancer in young women and women of any age with dense breast tissue.
“We are thrilled to offer 3D digital breast tomosynthesis in a second location,” says Gary M. Levine, M.D., director of breast imaging at Hoag Breast Care Center and one of the nation’s leading experts in breast tomosynthesis. “Early detection of breast cancer translates to saved lives and now, women can more conveniently undergo advanced screenings that are superior to conventional mammography.”
In addition to tomosynthesis screenings, patients at Hoag Imaging and Breast Center in Irvine will be able to undergo such services as screening and diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound, ultrasound-guided needle biopsy and DEXA, for Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry. For now, patients who need to undergo stereotactically guided needle biopsies can visit the Hoag Breast Care Center in Newport Beach.
“We look forward to growing the available services at our Irvine breast center to match the comprehensive services that are available in Newport Beach, including surgical consultation and genetics,” Dr. Levine said.
