A product of DISD Schools, Bruce went to Reinhardt Elementary School, Gaston Middle School, and graduated from Bryan Adams High School. He graduated from the University of North Texas with a BFA in film and photography and later earned a Masters of Science Degree from Texas A&M-Commerce in Educational Technology.
Bruce is a retired small business owner and professional whose experience began in Dallas’ early film industry working with people such as Brian De Palma, Visual Presentations, Century Studio and Mobil Color. Parrott worked for 11 years with Channel 11 rising to Producer/Director and left to start his own very successful maintenance company. Seven years later he started a video production company with his brother Brent. His video career spanned many years with stints at DCTV and Pegasus Productions with clients including the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce, the North Texas Small Business Develop Center, the City of Dallas Environmental and Health and the Office of Cultural Affairs City of Dallas. Bruce won several national awards including three Telly awards and the MCA-I 2003 Gold Reel Award for Editing. Bruce now devotes his time working as an advocate for our children and teachers and taxpayers as the Dallas ISD Trustee in District 3.
“When the voters of District 3 elected me on December 8, 2009 I promised to work for the taxpayers, parents, teachers and our children to raise standards in our schools above the lowest common denominator; to set policies that are best for the students; to create accountability, transparency and oversight of our district's money; and to promote fairness and equity in addressing teacher and student performance and creating a safe environment where our teachers can teach and our children can learn. We have made much progress in reforming the district but there is much work still to do.”
Bruce (bruceparrott.com) is a reform minded Trustee who re-wrote the district’s mission statement to promote academic excellence. Under his leadership Dallas ISD is now "one of the nation’s fastest improving urban school systems", according to the Council of Great City Schools, with the largest number of graduates since 1983! Bruce initiated the Citizens Budget Review Commission in 2010 to provide budget transparency, public input and financial guidance for the district and pushed to create the new Public Information Portal website which now links to district check registers, vendor information, budget and audit documents and finance, spending and conflict of interest reports. Bruce continues to support equity and fairness in teacher performance evaluation systems and is seeking a reduction in unnecessary student testing.
