The February 16th, 6:30pm performance by K.U.S. is right on time for the after-work crowd craving something a little different to break up their work week. This multi-cultural Rock/Soul band features singer/songwriter Kwame Binea, guitarist/songwriter Justin Wilcox, bassist Art Vanterpool, drummer Medley, and saxophonist Quigley.
Live music for happy hour is one of many ways Kwame and the Uptown Shakedown are using music to unite music lovers. The K.U.S. vision has included a social presence that supports peace, respect and education. The band is currently developing original content for a non monetary organization focused on the resilience of the human spirit after hearing 'Waiting' from their recent EP. The band's reverence for performing live is infectious with recent performances including The Bitter End and private performances for 32 Degrees Weatherproof, Fine Print, NYC, Technology Fusion and Radeberger Gruppe. 'Waiting', co-written by lead singer Kwame Binea and Justin Wilcox.
Kwame and the Uptown Shakedown was formed in 2008 by London-born Ghanian -raised Kwame Binea who merged his vision of music with songwriting partner Justin Wilcox and sank creative roots in Harlem. Initially an acoustic act Binea and Wilcox were joined by bassist Art Vanterpool, drummer Medley, and saxophonist Quigley. Having played regularly at a number of iconic venues including Sullivan Hall, Kenny's Castaway and Arlene's Grocery, the band plays shows across the East Coast.
