Bioo Scientific’s MaxSignal® Malachite Green/LMG ELISA has been added to the USDA’s Chemistry Laboratory Guidebook as the only method it recommends for the screening of fish samples for Malachite Green contamination (Method Number R44a, Screening for Malachite Green and Crystal Violet by ELISA). The USDA’s Chemistry Laboratory Guidebook contains test methods used by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) Laboratories to support the USDA's inspection program, ensuring that meat, poultry, and egg products are safe for consumption.
The MaxSignal® Malachite Green/LMG ELISA is used as a screening tool to ensure the safety of seafood by detecting Malachite Green contamination as low as 0.1 ppb in fish or shrimp samples. Due to its carcinogenic and mutagenic potential, Malachite Green (Basic Green 4) has been banned for use in the food industry by many countries including the US. However, it is still used as an antiseptic in various parts of the world to combat the attack of external parasites and pathogens, fungi and bacteria, in fish. The MaxSignal Malachite Green/LMG ELISA also offers an improved rapid extraction method for fish and shrimp samples that yields high recovery rates of 80 - 95%.
