Emergency Medicine Physicians (EMP) and EMP Partners' medical leadership gathered together with nursing leaders and ED staff physicians for its Emergency Department Summit to explore and share best practices for ED operational excellence.
This annual meeting provided the opportunity for our physicians and nurses to identify the most common ED problems and to discuss solutions that really work. Dominic Bagnoli, CEO of EMP, relayed that EMP sets itself apart from other EM companies by our innovative solutions to common ED problems. Our solutions work because our management structure is comprised almost entirely of actively-practicing emergency physicians.
Mary Jo Snyder, RN, MBA a nationally-recognized ED flow and operations expert who collaborates with EMP via the Echo Consulting Group, and Larry Satkowiak, MD, FAAP, ED Director at Children’s Hospital Central California, presented the incredible story of operational change they made at CHCC. The Echo Consulting Group collaborated with hospital leadership, nursing directors, and EMP physicians to optimize flow in a redesigned ED space. So great were the operational improvements that, despite the additional ED beds and square footage, no additional staff were needed for hire.
The Echo Consulting Group has many other success stories available to view at their website. Echo utilizes state-of-the-art computerized simulation software to create a virtual model of the ED. This allows them to accurately and statistically test and demonstrate what will happen when changes are made in the real environment. EMP hospital partners who have invested in Echo Consulting have achieved remarkable results in process improvement, increased patient satisfaction and revenue enhancement.
